I just purchased and picked up my '09 Wolverine 450 4x4. As soon as I saw the machine I knew it was going to be mine. It's got that nice aggressive sporty look to it like the raptors, but it's got the capability to hang with the Grizzly's and such when going offroad. I think that overall I made the best decision with the machine I bought.

From surfing a little bit around the site, it doesn't look as if anyone else here has a Wolvy. I haven't taken it out yet on the trails, just around the block, so I really don't know what to expect when I start riding the thing hard. Is there anyone here that has ridden one, or knows a little about these machines to give me a basic idea of what I am going to be in for?

2 of my buddies have Grizzlie's, and one has a hybrid polaris 2 stroke so I have tried all of them and I just couldn't decide what to get so I now have the best of 2 worlds with the Wolverine.

It would be nice to hear some input from some of you, so please reply or write me back.

as far as i know, a.. the smaller yamaha 4x4 atv's are pretty much the same basic platform. air cooled or water cooled, you should be good to go either way. just remember if the quad is water cooled, keep that radiator and fan clean!!! last thing you want to do is burn up the engine because the radiator got packed full of mud. it can happen.

keep the oil changed every 25 hours or so and it will last you years. my 99 yam big bear 350 4x4 runs like it just rolled off the showroom floor. and i promise you, it has been to the other side of hell and back several times =)

You didn't look hard enough. There are quite a few people here with 450 wolverines. Go for the Hauck sheave work right away. It's DEFINATELY worth it, cheap and easy to do. Also you won't be hanging with any of the regular utility 4x4s bone stock. I get hung up sometimes riding behind a 2wd rancher but that's only because of the 23" tires. These things will climb like nothing else though and they're extremly sporty on the trails.

 

I love the wolvy 450

It is a great quad. It will hang with just about anything in the rougher trails. It will keep up with a raptor on tight trails and keep up with anything in the really rough stuff as long as you dont bottom it out. I would suggest getting the skids and the radiator guard for it.

 

I think you said that better than I did. IN DEEP MUD the Wolverine won't hang but in slick trails and moderate mud it will keep up no problem.

 

You might want to invest in a set of agressive tires. Mudlites are probably your best bet and will give you that extra bit of traction when keeping up with those grizzly buddies of yours

 

BLAH! Mudlites suck IMO...the new Maxxis 'Zilla is where it's at. Lighter and a much better tire. I'm leaning toward the new GBC Afterburn for mine as the ground clearance is the only place I think it really needs improvement and they have a very sporty profile.

 

Interco Swamplites are good biting tires also, they grip crazy. mudlites are mediocre mud tires in my opinion.

yes the swamplites are a nice tire..... but they are way to heavy..... might be ok on a grizz or big bore ..... but trust me you do not want these on a wolverine....

i went with the maxxis zilla 26 inch ...... wicked tire and very light..... but i would recomend the sheave work to gain back the power..... also exhaust....

i hang all day long with the big bores..... the wolverine is a very under rated atv imo.... i would like a bit more ground clearence but i find even that is not to big of a deal.... just get a bigger run at the obstical...
