Default CAM question

I'm looking getting the stage II Hot Cam for my 06' 700R. A guy at the local shop said something about the Hot Cams creating a noisy valve train and suggested the Webb Cam. Anyone with any experience in this area or ideas? Thanks in advance.

Hmm. Everything I've heard about HotCams was postive. Never heard such a thing.

WebCams are generally a more aggressive cam that will net you more performance gains than the Hot Cam

But, require hardened rockers. Hotcams are drop in and go which is what made them popular.

That depends on the application. But yes, the drop-in simplicity is why Hot Cams are popular, and they are by no means a shabby product by any means. Just simply if you plan on doing some serious performance work to the engine the WebCam is generally a better choice (but not always, this is all on a case by case basis)

I don't see how a name brand of a cam would affect the engine noise, the Webcam is going to do the same thing that a Hotcam does. The lift and duration may be slightly different, but that should not affect the noise. I think the guy didn't know what he was talking about.

The cam can most definitely affect valvetrain noise, depending on how the durations are set up and what not. A WebCam is noticeably louder on a Warrior than a stock or HotCam

Ultimately I'm looking at standard/stock bore high comp piston, porting, and the stage II Hot Cam which advertises mid to top end performance. I don't think I'd hear the darn thing, the valve train, over my pipe anyways, but I'm always looking for guildance from those who have experience in these areas before I throw my dollars out to a new part.
