Well it could be several thinks like valve seals leaking , worn or sticking rings , valve adjustment ; or excessive carbon deposits builtup inside the combustion chamber which can cause the oil rings to stick when it warms up to normal operation temps !
What do you mean by it runs graet when cold but but when it warms up ?
If you means it doesn't smoke and run good when engine is cold this is a good sign that it could very well be exccessive carbon build up inside the combustion chamber.
Heres what i would suggest for you to try and its not to expensive thing either , change the engine oil and oil filter , clean and relube the filter , get a can of SeaFoam from your local auto parts store or local WalMart SuperCenter and mix it in your gas tank folling the instructions on the can ; it a great product that will clean the entire fuel system and also cleans the combustion chamber of the exccess carbon deposits and frees up sticky rings !
I've seen it do wonders on all type of engines from automotive to lawn mowers both 2 and 4 stroke gasoline and deisel engines , a 16 oz. can costs about $7.00 + tax ; and will treat over 20 gallons of fuel just mix it up in a gas jug and pour it into your tank and ride it's sure worth the cost !......
Hope it helps get the quad going using this tip , and welcome to the forums !..........
