09 raptor 700r vs 09 yfz 450r

In reality im never gonna be an mx racer. Im sure ill be in the sand pits near where i live most often and the obvious trail riding to get to them. As far as dunes there is no such thing in south jersey. Basically I want a comfortable quad for my height, nimble enough to throw around a pit, light enough to get some decent air, and something with snap your head back power in the corn fields. Ive heard that the raptors are a little top heavy and the yfz is a little too small for comfort. I guess it will have to come down to me taking each one for a spin before I decide. I really just want to make this purchase once and have a bad *** machine that fits me perfect. Im now leaning towards the raptor. thanks for everybodys help.

I just bought a 08 YFZ and my friend just bought an 08 raptor 700, personally, I like my 450 better, it's lighter and i think it jumps way better to me, and it's not too small, I'm 6'2" and 170 lbs.

If you are not going to race the bike the 700 with EFI will by far be a better everyday quad than any 450 and one that you wont be changing oil or adjusting the vales after every ride. The 700 is by far a better bike to live with unless you like to wrench on it!

i have a friend who is the same size as u. he just bought a yfz450 and after taking 1 ride on my new raptor (big3 + ignition only) he wants to sell that yfz and get a 700 and i think u would be in the same boat as him.

the 450r has EFI...
It also doesn't require you to be constantly wrenching on it. It's not a 2 stroke.
They yfz will give you a much more "arm wrenching power feel", but because of your size, I probably wouldn't recommend it. You can drop the foot pegs and raise the bar height to help with feeling cramped, but I still think it's just not the ergo setup you're looking for. I love my yfz and I have yet to get on something that has that arm pulling power delivery like the yfz... but you should probably go with a raptor.
Test ride them both. Hopefully you can find somewhere to really give them both a good ride, because in the end it's what you want, not what we suggest... You might even want to think outside of the yami brand...

i hear what you guys are saying, but alot of people are telling me that the raptor is too top heavy and isnt a good choice for an aggresive rider. im not interested in just riding wheelies and drag racing. ive been getting the impression that thats the style of riding that the raptor caters to. i want something designed to be ripped around a sand pit. all this confusion is kind of making think about a new two wheeler.

You are right but it does take alot more wrenching than the 700 does (oil changes, valve adjustments, sooner rebuilds than a 700, and such)

If you have never rode a quad with arm pulling power like a 450 then you never rode a built 250R,Banshee,Quadzilla 500 or a propery built 700R. Heck even a built KFX700 will give a rush no 450 can give even built!

probably a safe assumption... whatever you decide will not be the last quad you purchase.
Go with what you think (sounds like the 450) you will like more. I am sure over the next couple years you will ride with others who ride rappies. Try and compare. Then buy another! or trade.
I really don't think you will be disappointed either way.
