my bike chain snapped and i was wondering could i take some links out and put it back together?

 

Yes, that used chain probably has enough stretch in it, but don't you think it is the right time to replace the chain? You should look at the sprokets also at this point and replace those.

 

Turtler is right, when a chain has snapped it has stretched and while probably long enough your are just prolonging the inevitable. If you are only going to do that for a short time till you can afford to replace the chain and sprockets you will prolly be ok but you should change all of it.

my chain kept popping off and i tighten it up good
and i was going up one of the easiest hills out where we ride
and pop the chain snapped off and luckily just dented my case
and crack the plastic cover over the front sprocket
your better off buying a new one because if u dont it might crack your case and there aint cheap

you probly can
but ur chain looks pretty beat up, and if u do reuse that chain you have a possible chance of cracking your side case which is alot more than a chain
your best bet is just to wait and get a chain
i got my chain off of www.bikebandit.com and it was like 22 dollars
and grab a chain of chain wax too
and some advice to keep ur chain good, dont let it get rusty like that

 

You can, assuming that there is either enough adjustment in your carrier to make up for the lost link or you have another section of chain to install with 2 master links but even if you get it up and running it's probably not going to last long and the next time it might take a bite out of your engine cases.

 

If you break a chain, replace it. Don't try adding links, it will just bite you big time, that dent will turn into a crack. Also replace your sprockets while you are at it. I picked up an X-ring chain and all new sprockets for right about $100.

a dent in your case will not turn into a crack
it may but you would have to hit that dent off something
or have your chain resnap and hit that dent
but all depending on how thick the dent is
because i have a tiny dent in my case aprox. 1cm into it... if that
and it didnt crack
knock on wood
but if nothing touches that then it 99.9% shouldnt turn into a crack
