Default Which qUaD should I get?

Ok guys, for starters I am a newb to quads and this forum. I am a previous owner of a 2000 RM 250 dirt bike (2stroke) that I rode on OR sand dunes and I just sold it with expectations of buying a quad. Now I am in the market for a quad and don't know which make/model to buy.

My riding style is currently sand, but would like it for tight dirt trails as well. I sold my dirt bike because I felt that the learning curve for a quad would not be as steep (say easier for jumping/tight trails)?

I want to spend around 3500 to 4500.

I have found what looks to be a pretty good deal? A 07 yzf 450 for 3650 with a DRD full exhaust system, K&N air intake kit with out fitters sock, DG grab bar, Pro taper handlebars, etc.

Questions: I know exhast systems are huge hp bosters, is DRD any good?
Is the difference between a 04, 05, 07, 08, 09 huge (or is it more just has the quad been riden into the ground)? Is the power band pretty uniform? Is it worth the extra $ for a yfz 450R, especially if its my first quad? Is the yfz better than the banshee for all around riding, ie (not just drags)? And lastly, is professionaly cut plastics code word for I rolled it and I cut the fenders off because they were totally f'd up? heh.

Any comments/suggestions would be cool. and sorry if this is a repeat thread, still in the process of reading up.

a yfz 450 sounds like it would fit you well there good in trails and sand a raptor 700 is another good choice, raptors are good for dunes and trails also, a yfz 450 is more a track bike though, raptors usually last a little longer, and Dr.D does make some good pipes, and that can be one of the reason people cut plastics, other reasons are just for the cool racey look, aerodynamics(lol) and also some people like cut plastics because of the gained view you get, ur able to see ur entire wheel and more sometimes.

For all around riding i would go with a 450 over a shee, and cut plastics you see more from strict dune guys as they cut down on wind drag but on the trails you get no mud protection.

So do you guys think 3500-3600 is a good price for that quad? or is it more dependent on how much its been ridden? Any good signs other than beat up plastics to tell this? I guess there is an hour meter on this quad, are they reliable when buying one or are they easy to unplug? I figure worst case with it is that it had been raced for a year or so. (2007 and all)

Its not a requirement to ride trails, i ride trails on my shee all the time. Ive never seen a trail posted saying you must have reverse to ride this trail LOL

It is nice to have but isnt required

reverse is nice, and the bad thing about getting a new tricked out 450 is that it has prly been raced. What i would do is ask questions about it, try to get the best picture of its history. Check the fluids on it, if they are low its a good idication that the guy doesnt keep great care of it, and he has prly ran it in a compromising way. Fire up the engine, listen for any unusual sounds, rev it pretty high and see if it lets any blue smoke. Also after it has been ran for a bit shut er down and look in the case to see if there is smoke in it.

I can't speak for anyone but me of course but I need reverse on a quad just as much as I need reverse on my truck. I am not interested in pulling and yanking on anything that has a motor. If I wanted to push or pull it I would have got a bicycle, or a chevy lmao I know that will make friends. lol just kidding guys

yea i agree with reverse on trails, i think i will mostly use it on wide open dunes though. In which If i want to go back the other way I can just turn around . But yea tight forest trails forsure.
