I have heard alot of bad things about the Grizzly overheating all the time. Is this true or is it just a myth of the other competetors. And if it really does overheat, how long do you have to wait 'till it cools down.

I have used my 2000 Grizzly in all kinds of hot
weather here in Arizona and have never had a
problem with overheating.

I never had an over heat problem other than I really felt that it ran very hot. and the bottom of my right leg is still almost bald from my ownership of that beast. Lots of power I wish the Kodiac that is out now could have been my bike. Just seemed to handle 100% better not as much grrrrrrr to it but I dont plan on moving any mountains > I just want to have fun riding in them. Just my 2 Cents >>>>>well maybe 3 Cents

In 98 when it came out, they had a heating problem supposley, my friend has one and has never had it overheat, in 99 they did some modificatons like putting the oil cooler up higher so it wouldn't get plugged up and added heat sheilds to her. Since 99 the machines are identical.
I have a 2000 and that bear just is pure power and can work with the best of them, and no it never overheated in hot weather. The fan has come on though, but that is the extent of it. The oil cooler with the fan helps alot. My friends honda 450ES seems to run about the same temp. and has the same setup as the grizz with the oil cooler with fan backup.
You can't go wrong with a Grizzly for power and reliability.

I have also heard the "rumors" about Grizzly over heating. Experince however has shown it to be just that, a rumor! I have ridden mine very hard and had extended idling in 90+ degree weather, and it has never overheated! The fan comes on freguently and does its job just great. One of the first signs of overheating is power lose. Thats one area where the Griz has NEVER suffered! No matter how hard I ride it, no matter what the temperature, it always has on demand power in abundance! If you are thinking of getting a Grizzly I would highly recommend it. No matter how hard I ride it, it just keeps asking for more, and has never broken down in any way, large or small!

I have a 1998 Grizzly. It overheated all the time. I tried the exhaust wrap (didn't work). What did work was cutting off the mounts and attaching them to a piece of straight alluminum stock. U-bolting the stock up higher on the frame.

I ran the oil lines on top of the front differential and used tie straps to keep the lines clear of any moving parts. I would recommend trying 1999 oil hose. The hose is longer to allow you to run it under the differential.

I had problems removing the oil hose from the radiator. The steel hose and the alluminum radiator fused together. I ended up having to buy a new radiator. If you do end up buying a new radiator, a radiator is a radiator. Go to a radiator repair place and they can source a new one for you.

To be truthfull, I haven't ever seen a quad overheat. It happens of course, but I haven't ever done it.

I hunt together with a couple of friends that have a 98 & 99 Grizz. I personally own a 2002 Grizz. We all hunt in the same camp and pull lots of weight through swamps and up very steep long hills for 16.5 miles. This was our third season doing this and never once did anyone ever have any overheating problems or any other problems. Watch the rumors especially from other brand owners.
