Default Bought my first ATV :)

Hello all, I bought an old Yamaha Kodiak 400 1993 with 6600kms on it.

I took my first ride last weekend, approx 80kms in the mountains, it was a blast.

Until I ran out of fuel ! My friend has a Kodiak 450 2008 and still had 3/4 of gas when I had to run on reserve

Also I noticed the smell of burned oil while riding at 50km+/hour so I decided to change the oil.

Now the oil has been changed with oil filter but after starting the Kodiak and give lots of gas it bogs down and die if I leave the thumb on the gas, if I give a little gas and accelerate gradually its fine..

I did buy an air filter but I have no idea how to change it

The mechanic at Yamaha who sold me the parts told me I should also remove possible water in the carburetor but did not understand how it is done..

I just bought a Clymer manual for the Kodiak as I wish to learn more about it.

Anyone could tell me how to change the air filter ?

Thanks in advance, Im glad to have found a forum like this

Found out the air filter is under the seat, so that is done

Is it normal when on neutral if I give full throttle at once it bogs down ??

If I'm at 10km+ and give full throttle it just gives more power as it should.. weird ?

Thanks!

Something is wrong i think. I dono if it is old technology but even the new vtwin large cc quads get atleast 100km on a tank of gas. My 2008 kingquad400 gets 200km on just one tank of gas if i fill it right up to the top. You might have to take it to a mechanic and get him to check the whole thing over.

I found a Kodiak 1998 manual onine and it says fuel capacity to be 13.5 liters.. what kind of fuel capacity does your ATV have ?

When I get my repair manual I'll check the carb, Cant go to the mecanic will cost too much for the price I paid the ATV anyway.
