WOLVERINE PIPE???
#1
Hello,
I'm currently trying to suggest some mods for my bro's 1999 wolverine, he wants to get 25 inch bearclaw tires all the way around and mount them on stock rims and it won't probably spin them good enough because it doesn't even spin the stockers that good and seems to lack alot of low end power (we're use to ridin a grizzly) so when he gets the tires I was suggesting he get a K&N air filter and a FMF Performax or Supertrap IDS muffler, We can get the Supertrap a $100 cheaper so that is something to keep in mind or is it not as good as the fmf for low/mid range power?, he doesn't really care about what they will do for the top end he just wants more low/mid range power.
also what would be some other mods to make the wolverine turn the bigger tires with ease that are cheap.
Thanks,
BUB

The FMF megamaxII is a good choice for the pipe. I opted to go with a pro-flow instead of the K&N. It has an aluminum mount that fits very well. A carb kit is a must on the wolverine. It completely gets rid of the flat spot at the bottom of acceleration, and lets it start really easy. Even when it's really cold. As far as low end grunt, good luck. It's just not the right engine design. I run 25" bearclaws and it does well. The trick is to get the rpm's up and keep the tires spinning.

Well, look at my list of mods and I find the Wolverine pulls really nice and I have no problem spinning the Bear Claws on mine. The only time you'll want that lower end torque is when your driving through soupy mud. I've seen myself looking for a lower gear crawling "slowly" through some guey stuff but you just have to keep on the gas a bit harder and there won't be any problems..
