Default Got wife an old beartracker.Lots of questions

Well i bought a beartracker for my wife today. It is her first quad ever.

This thing is gutless and wont stop so just trying to pep it up and get it slowed down is the first order of business.

It has cable operated drum brakes like the old blasters. They dont work correctly just like th eold blasters.

Can I upgrade to hydraulic discs on the front? If so with what? I was hoping maybe warrior parts.

Also the carb for this thing is screwed up so bad it wont run with it so the guy put an old carb off of a 250x on it. It loads up and revs way to fast.
I believe it needs a rebuild also.

Question is which one do i rebuild?

Is there any performance advantage to using the honda carb?

What about some of the small cheap carbs off of ebay?

Would one of them be a better choice?

My old Blaster has Cable front drums.... and of course no rear at all..... I have that in the works,.... but all in all, I don't think Cable brakes are all bad if you get them working right. Check Drums, shoes and cables,..... not much more to it. They work really well. On my blaster I like the extra weight too. The fornt of my blaster seems to want to come up easily since I put the pipe and silencer on (FMF Fatty gold series and a used FMF silencer, of unknown ID).

I'd always start with the original equipment if at all possible. Mods are for after it's working properly.

I was going to rebuild the beartracker original carb today but it has pieces missing bent and broken.
So now Im trying to figure out if the carb I posted the ebay link to will work or find a carb that will work.

There is a carb on ebay for $79 or so if you are missing parts, that might be the cheaper route. I just got a beartracker for $600 it is a 1999, everything works great on it. Just used to get from point A to point B so it is just fine. The engine seems to get a bit hot when driving real slow, so I cant imagine doing any work with just an air cooled engine with no fan or oil cooler.
