sort of, when i hook up the front of the quad to the back of my truck and someone drives the truck to pull the quad, its starts when i put it in gear but at really low rpm and when i hit the gas it does nothing and when the truck pulling me on the quad stops, the quad stalls out

Not bashing you or anything, but you bought a quad with no key? that would raise a few questions in my mind, plus the fact if the cdi was smashed,it probably hasn't run in a while. My advice would be to get your bike back and find a good, running quad to trade for,and maybe punch that guy in the junk for good measure !!!

Haha I'm thinking you got screwed on this deal. If this thing won't pop start then I'm thinking you've got more issues than a just a battery as you already seen with the cdi. You might as well plan on going through everything. Make sure it's getting spark, checking all the electronics and wiring. Make sure it's getting fuel. Clean out the carb.

It's certainly time to start from scratch now. Hate to hear people gettin' screwed, but this sounds like one of those cases. Maybe we can help you get it going.
If it were me, I'd start by removing the engine and getting it on the bench and start tearin' it down. You can verify whether the bearings, rod, and all the vital components are either good or not..... It will be a good experience to learn how it works too....

Is it just one click, or a lot of little clicks? lots of weak clicks is a bad battery or a bad connection somewhere, you may need to go over the grounding connections to the frame and engine, even a slightly loose or dirty contact will cause you headaches. Just one click,I'm not 100% sure what that would mean. Since you are willing to make a go of this, start with the basics, get that starter working so you can test the spark, if that isn't possible, pull the carb, clean it out spotless, and see if that helps it stay running when you pull start it. If it has been sitting a few months, the gas is probably a bunch of green goo in the bowl, and plugging up the ports and jets in the carb. Once you get it so it can idle, make sure the oil is clean and full, listen for any funny noises, like rod knock, piston slap, or loose valves. Take care of the little things like that, and then you dig into any bigger problems once you verify it will actually run on its own. Keep us updated on what you are doing, and we will help as much as possible. Good luck ( and please reconsider that junk punch as a backup !!!!)
