what front end design are you talkin about... like i said im just going by the previuos owners information. where can i look for a stamp or serial number, would that help identifying?

thanks for all the info so far!

VIN number is on the lower frame rail on the left side by the engine, IIRC (it may be the right side). The headlights are mainly what I am referring to but the whole front end was different in the first two years---the lights are just the giveaway.

the lights came from a new Polaris we had in the shed... ill check vin number now...

definitely an 87/88 model.. and the valve adjuster can't come out with the valve cover in place. So my bet is someone took it out to replace it and never put it back

or it didnt get tightned down good and it backd itself loose... the guy i bought it from,, i spoke to today, and he said the dood that had it before him, recently adjusted the valves...



you mean the bolt is too long to back itself loose with the cover on? hmmm

On a side note, I have a bottle of the lucas oil treatment next to me and it "controls heat and wear in high performance motorcycles, For 4 stroke cycles with wet clutches use 10%(ratio), otherwise max of 20%(capacity).

I'd like to add that I've used the treatment in all of my atv's w/o a single problem yet to arise.

I wouldn't. Its really not a good idea to use any additive with the wet clutch system. Also, the valve adjuster can most definitely come off with the valve cover on, for sure. Its happened to me.
