I am in the market for a new quad. I am torn between the Griz and XP. I have ridden a Polaris xp 850 and was quite impressed, but I am concerned about long term maintenance. I know the XP is more powerful. However, I have heard good things about the Grizzly too. Which one would you buy and why?

 

I think that you must mean the 850 XP where as the 550 does not have more power that the 700 Grizz.

If you could wait on the Grizzly 700, Yamaha is going to start making them as V-twins. They are going to have too in order to keep up with the competetion..That will be my next ATV down the road in like 4-5 years. I'll also have an excuse to get one because I got twins on the way and when the time comes for them to ride, they'll have my 450 at their disposal, but that is a lonnnng time before they will be able to ride a 450.

I liked the grizzly 700 anyways, I rode DS2's real tree one and it had a lot of thrust with it's fuel injection and sure is alot faster then my 450 would ever dream of. The place where I purchased my 450 offered to sell me an 09 camo brand new for $8400. Not sure what your local dealer is selling them for.

 

I can get an 09 griz 700 for 6300 brand new. XP 850 is 7500.

 

Where did you get the information about the Grizz 700 V-twin. Is it solely your speculation?

 

I agree with sled05, it is pure speculation that Yamaha would go to a v-twin motor. I make my living selling these things and at no time have I heard, read, anything from Yamaha that this is what they intend to do..... DOG

 

Yamaha likes the thumpers for off road use.They produce more torque at lower rpm and reduce weight and are less complicated with one cylinder,coil,crank,piston.head and so on and so on. Thats why most all off road motorcycles are singles even the big bores.

The only advantage a twin would have is if you do alot of high speed riding on roads vs trail riding.But even then a big single like a 700 grizzly or 750 KQ will cruise all day long at 60 mph without working up sweat.

 

Tho I have yet to ride a XP and I have heard great things about them I will say I have owned Polaris products in the past and will say that my Grizz is far and away a better allaround product than anything I have previosly owned. It might not be the best in any single catagory but it does do EVEYTHING well, The thing I like the most is it's reliability in 1500 miles I have yet todo anthing to the bike except normal maintanance and to ride the bike!

 

I would say grizzly has plenty of power and less expensive. also Polaris parts can be quite pricey.
