Default seized blaster.

I was riding with my friend today and he was just riding his blaster. anyways we were riding like the wind on the trail and i guess his engine locked up.

we pulled the head off of it and the piston skirt broke off into a bunch of metal chunks and all of it is stuck in the lower end.

The piston wall is very smooth so that is good. The crank didn't look damaged because we were able to get it to spin a little but we saw chunks of the piston skirt keeping it from doing so.

I know bottom end is very spendy to fix. i just need to know if anyone has an idea how much they would charge.

shop time is 85 an hour but all he needs them to do is split the lower end and clean it out. Hes hoping it is for less them 500$

piston, rings, seals he can take care of that himself.

Thanks in advance guys, sorry for the 2-stroke trouble.

It'll probably run you 250-350$ in shop charges to split the case, in my area at least. That kind of thing is really variable though depending on your area and who you take it to. Some guys can do it very well and quickly so the charge is much less. Also, you need to go ahead and bore the cylinder regardless of how it "looks"--and expect that to be around $50-75 or so.

No chance. A new piston is going to be in excess of $100. That and the gasket kit is going to be over $150, and that cylinder is going to have to be bored as I can guarantee you it is not in good condition anymore. If you do it all yourself with the bottom end you are still probably looking at $200+ for gaskets, new piston, and just the labor on the cylinder bore.

I'm betting the rod broke too. So calculate in all new bearings and a rod and maybe even a new crank...... 500 is sounding like a price for all the parts needed..... What if the crunched up bits ate the cylinder up on the nottom and it's not "hone-able"? The best thing to do is to tsrta disassembly and see what all got FUBAR'd and go from there. I bet it's not all that bad, but first glance rarely covers all the needed parts and labor.

On a side note,.... If it's rebuilt well,.... It'd be worth every penny spent.

If you always wanted to "hot rod" it,.... now might be that time to do it also.

I'd probably spend 500 without blinking. If it goes much more, I'd have to weigh whether to use it for parts, and buy a new 4 wheeler.... or even buy another Blaster to ride and have the spare parts bike, or a slow rebuild when the money's there......

Sometimes less..... It's astorage issue to me. I don't have a lot more room to spare,.... even for a running and ready 4 wheeler for 500 bucks.... I'd have to scrap something for sure.... I already have extra frames and wheels and hubs and rear axels and steering stems and all kinds of "extras"..... I may sell the one I have anyway....... LOL

I could almost build a second Blaster with just the spare parts now that I think of it.....

or you can do it for about $10.turn the bottom end upside down and spray lots of parts cleaner in the while trying to turn the crank

I hope thats a joke ...

The piston skirts broken. There's pieces in the bottom end. The sleeve is now scored at minimum...

I don't think $10 worth of parts cleaner is going to help that.
