Knocking Raptor
#1
Just picked up a new 2001 raptor from the dealer yesterday. Still haven't ridden it. Just breaking it in. Noticed when I shut the motor off there is a loud knock from the motor. Any ideas? Thanks in advance... P.s Do all of these things vibrate alot?

Yes thats the normal sound when shutting off, I think it is something to do with the auto compression release. They do vibrate alot but once the motore mounts break in it becomes less noticeable, either that or your @ss just goes numb

Yeah, it's a prettly loud "ka-clunk" sometimes when you hit the stop button. I hear it more when I accidentally kill it. Hasn't seemed to hurt anything. I don't notice vibrations at all. With that said, nothing is a smooth as the twin cylinder Banshee.

Thanks for the replies... Talked with the dealer about the noise before I even rode it, They claim that they never heard a noise in one of these yet. Either way, they told me to go ahead ride it and if something happened then it was ment to be and they would cover it under warranty.... Thanks again...

Sounds like typical salesman/dealer grab your money response to me.I had a 97 Wolverine and in 98 it broke the starter pinion gear that is mounted in the crankcase thus breaking and needing a crancase (very expensive). I had heard of this occuring in other Wolverines and in 99 they changed the case. But every one I talked to about some financial help ran a mile from dealers to Yamaha Canada. So be carefull>
