I have a 1998 its a tank. the only things that broke were the rear hub rounded out, and the starter broke. other then that I changed air and oil filter. mine has 8,8XX hrs.

I had a 2205 and loved it. Main issues was wheel bearings but I did mud alot. Do you know the person selling? If not, I always question why someone puts on a lift and mud tires. I know when I put on mud tires, I use the machine hard. I'd suggest jacking it up and check for looseness in the wheel bearings.
Other than that, I loved my Kodiak and just got the girlfriend a Grizzly 450.
Good luck and have fun with it.

Not the same ATV . The 2004 450 Kodiak is the same as the current 450 Grizzly bolt for bolt,IRS,liquid cooled 421cc,diff lock and so on... Yamaha just did a name change like they did with the 350 Briun(Now 350 Grizzly).. Here is a side by side of a 2004 450 Kodiak vs a 2010 450 Grizzly.

2004 Yamaha Kodiak™ 450 Auto. 4x4 ATVs

This is the older 400 Kodiak you must be talking of ?

I have 05 kodiak 450 it has 689 hr & 1657 miles on it.I bought it last spring from a friend which he bought it new and has had no problems with it.He bought a new 09 grizzly 450 so far this has been a great atv.It is a little bit smaller & turnes a little bit sharper than the 550,700 which is nicer in tight places like in the woods for hunting or driving in and around trees.AS far as the carburetor I have 89 warrior which Ive owned for 16 years and never had a problem with it.Take a close look at any atv you look at and test drive it. most of the time you can tell buy looking at anything if its been taken care of.
