Yfz 450
#1
So I was wondering something, figured I would ask the community. I, right now have a 350 Yamaha Warrior ATV. I like to trail ride, and would like to race this upcoming summer at a GNCC track. The problem is, I want something bigger than my 350 Warrior. I want to get a 450, but the only real reason I am hesitating at the moment is, no reverse. Now my question is. Do you really need reverse? I will be using the quad mostly on trails, but in the summers I would enjoy racing and competing. I would get a 660, but I heard bad things about them. Also I ride a 700R Raptor (my brothers). And he had a YFZ 450, and I preferred the YFZ. I would be buying USED, like an 04 if I do go the route of a 450. I know, at least I heard the new 450's have reverse but I dont have that much cash on me due to being 18, and a college student. So my main question is, in your opinion, do you really need reverse?
Thanks,

Almost all the guys running GNCC around here run the 450 sport quads. So if you are looking to race then defiantly go with the 450. If you do a lot of trail riding and get stuck a lot then reverse is nice. But reverse is not needed. The few times you would need it you can just hopp off and push.

Yea, I wish I could keep the 350 for trail riding and what not, and buy a 450, but that's being unreasonable. I guarantee the first day I go out on the trails with a 450 I am going to get stuck. Haha, ohh well. The power makes up for it I guess haha.

The newer YFZ does not have reverse, I think only the Kawi KFX450 is the only only 450 class that has reverse on it.
The 660 raptor isn't bad, there were some issues on the 01 trannies but they are pretty solid machines but if you prefered the 450 over your brothers 700 raptor your not going to like the 660 either.

Reverse? HA! I laugh in the face of reverse!
You find ways to get around without reverse. Can usually cut donut, run up a hill and roll back, or in worst case's get off and push. It don't bother me.

Every one is running a 450 in the GNCC, a 660 or 700 Raptor is going to be hard to make compete. The GNCC stuff is pretty wide open, but reverse can help in the bottlenecks when they do occur. I run a YFZ, our local scramble series is much tighter than GNCC. Myself, reverse would be nice, but by keeping your wits you won't lose any time without it usually.
