Default fst 488 kit

I`m interested in the 488 big bore kit,but i read on here that theres alot of machine work involved. The case needs to be split as to fit everything. But I was told that it dosen`t make sense to split the case unless the kit requires a new crank installed. Can some one who had it installed tell me whats involved. Thanks

It would help to know what machine you have. going from a 450 to a 488 could very well involve a new crank/stroker kit.

I went on the fst website. I don't see anything for the 450 Wolverine although the website probably just hasn't been updated in a while. Best to just call them and see what that kit entails.

if it doesnt have a stroker crank and its just top end work then im sure they would have to split the cases and re sleeve it in order to get a 488 out of it, no way a stock sleeve could go that high.

I have the 488 kit in my 07 wolverine and yes you do need to split the case... the web page has not been updated in the past year and a half that I know of. I personally like the kit but beware of issues..... I have found it to be very hard on the starter... the compression can cause starting issues. I have since put in a bigger battery out of a harley with more cranking power. and will be taking the starter out and have it rebuilt stronger as well. sounds like hell starting it sometimes and other times sounds and starts perfect.

if you are only looking at the kit for more power and not in need of a rebuild as I was, perhaps you should start off the cheap way and send in your clutch sheave and buy the adjustable rollers. I gained much more power that way for cheap.....
