what is this noise?

I went out to ride my blaster one day and I was stupid and forgot to check the 2-stroke oil before I left.When I was riding, the engine shutdown.Fortunetly the engine didn't lock up. Ever since this happened I've heard a clicking noise inside the engine.Does anyone know what this could be? Thanks

Dude you did one of ATV's no no's. You have to check both crank oil and 2 stroke res. I hope you dont do this often. Dont know what the noise is but doesnt sound good.

Dont know what the "clicking" sound would be, usually thats found on 4-strokes with out of tune valves or timing, on a blaster? uhh... Im gonna say piston slap? Or worn/overheated rod/topend bearings? Pinging from low-octane gas? I dunno... But it should not tick!lol! Sorry couldnt be of any help...

Hey airbanshee, you check your tranny oil before every ride? Why? does it leak or something?

when a 2 stroke fouls a plug it knocks. it only makes since that since you ran it out of oil mixture it fouled the plug. get a new plug bet it helps

One of the more difficult things to diagnose on engines, is sounds. Exspecially when you cannot hear the sound yourself. Where is the sound comeing from? Please give a more detailed description of the noise. Like for ex. The ticking is coming from the left side of the motor while at about 1/2 throttle or more only. Also, How is the ticking timed to the motors revolutions? Does the ticking get faster (or louder) as the motor revs, or does it stay at a constant (is it even?) pace? There are a infinate number of ways a sound can occur.

It sounds like it is comming from the cyclinder. It can be heard at low rpm. As the rpm get higher, it starts to fade away.This is probably the best discription I can give you.Thanks.

I used to use 87 gas in my blaster but i now started using 93 octane and I no longer hear the pinging that I used to at high speed. Just an observation..

dude change the friggin plug. a 2 stroke has to have oil to keep the mixture right and you ran it out which leaned and fouled the plug.thats definetly the problem. get a new NGK plug before you really mess it up with the fouled one

It's sounds to me like you scored the piston, when the bike runs out of oil it over heats and if your lucky it dies.......I would think that to lean of a mixture would not fowl a plug I always found that to rich would fowl the plug.

If the sound is kind of a soft and drawn out with a bit of a tick at the end of the sound than it is piston slap. I do not know how to explain it any better, but it should not be a ticking sound like when you spin one of those gambling wheel things. Your plugs should not be fouled from running the bike lean, But pull them out and check anyways, look for any alluminum looking flecks (like pepper, but alluminum colored) if there are any than you probably need a new piston.When you run lean (no oil) you will cause excessive wear in the rings and piston (causing piston slap) I do not know alot about the blaster, but I would check the reeds to make sure they were not damaged and take the top end apart if you know how to. A gasket is not very much and you will know alot more by pulling it apart. If you do not work on your own machine, take it into a shop and have them check it out. It is ok to run your bike with a bit of slop in the pistons, but I do not know what the clearances are for a blaster. If you take it into a shop, chances are they will suggest a top end rebuild. So if you do not have the cash for it right now, Take it easy on the bike and stay close to home that way you can still ride and not have to pay the shop 2 times to work on your bike. I hope that this helps you out some.
