Exclamation Extended Warranty - Purchase or Pass?

My new ride come's with a (free) 6 month factory warranty, (or) for an extra hard earned $900 my dealer will give me a extended 4 year warranty!

Personaly, I would be pretty bummed if my new machine had $900 in needed warrantable repair's over a 4 year perion... but I suppose anything COULD happen

Do you advise I spend the extra $ on the extended warranty?

Your advise is appreciated!

Default warranty

I passed on the extended warranty...I guess that it depends what it all covers...I have had my big bear just over two years (almost 1600) miles...I have replaced wheel bearings (40 bucks, dealer wanted 280), a arm guard on one side( like 15 bucks), plastic shround inside fender well to protect front of motor and drive shaft (10 bucks), brakes I believe 4 times (70 bucks each time), plastic rear bash plate (opted for aluminum (135 bucks)), speedometer cable (25 bucks)...and I am fairly easy on it...meaning I keep fluids changed and keep it clean and inspected when done riding...hope this gives you some idea of what 28 months of parts looks like on an 08 big bear!

What is covered, how hard are you on machines, and most importantly, how much do you trust the dealer? I always pass on the extended warranty now. Been burned in the past, it is common ofr the company to do anything to weasel out of it and then you have spent your hard earned money and gotten nothing in return. ATVs are not that complicated to fix for the most part. Buy the Yamaha shop manual and do the work yourself, you can buy a lot of parts for $900.00!

If you plan on keeping it stock and have the dealer do the regular maintenance , buy it. If not, don't. In this economy, most dealers will probably weasel out of warranty repairs. You have bought the most reliable quad in the marketplace, massive repair expenses are rare, usually due to crashing or abuse. Neither of which will be covered by the warranty.
