86 or 87 YFM200 DXT Starting Problems (no spark)
This is my first post and any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a 86 or 87 Yamaha YFM200 DXT. It has always run great. Yesterday it was idiling in the driveway ( I wasn't even on the bike) and it just stopped runnning. Will crank but wont start. I put in a new plug no spark. No spark from the plug wire either.
I am fairly handy but by no means a mechanic. My first thought was the coil. Am I on track? I pulled what I think is the coil from under the seat and brought it home with me (the bike is up at my cottage). Is there some way to test this to see if it is any good. Any other suggestions? Also where is a good place to get this on line if this is in fact what I need? Thanks in advance for any information anyone can share I really appreciate it!

Ebay is the cheapest place to find parts. Your quad is made of 3 primary electrical components, your stator, CDI box and coil. The coil is the cheapest. You can use a volt meter and check the 2 poles that hook up to the coil and crank it over. If you are getting juice, then it is probably the coil. If not, you can do the same for the wires coming out of your stator to the CDI box. If you get juice, then it is probably the CDI box, but there are other factors involved, but this is good place to start.
