Default Drive Belt Life?

I've got an 02 Grizzly 660 that I bought new in July 01. Only 2600 miles on it since after wife and kids arrived, riding a lot kind of went out the window. Original belt is still on it, and I've had no issues with it ever. No whining, no rubber smell or anything. I am kind of wondering if I should replace it since it is 10 years old though. I can't tell if the quad has less acceleration or if its just me thinking that it does. Should you expect a belt to stretch out much over time, and how would this affect the way it runs? I've had no problems with the belt drive, but I dont know jack crap about them. Yamaha never made me the manual shift big bore that I asked them for so many years.

Maybe about 2-3 MPH off that. I may go check that here in a minute just for the heck of it. I think I could get the speedo to read 67 after the HMF pipe and jet kit on flat pavement. It got to maybe 63-64 the other day, though the filter hasn't been cleaned in a few years (and also hasn't had 100 miles put on it in that time either). I cleaned the carb and adjusted the valves in it last night, and the last time I had done the valves was 07. And this is also with the worn out stock Dunflops, so its as fast as the quad is going to be capable of. Those tires weigh next to nothing.

I never did hit send on the last message and now I'm back. Which by the timestamp would make that look like a pretty quick test ride. Ran 63 (speedo, not reality) on pavement with very slight downgrade. 61 coming back and that was all it was going to have. So yeah, I could hit 65-66 on that same stretch 6-7 years ago with the same setup. I'm going to clean the filter (was planning on it anyway) and see if this does anything. Its not a big deal since the quad runs fine, but still something that crossed my mind on the belt.

its normal my stock 400 normaly runs 63 with me on it but if im running against the wind it drop down to 57 so its normal just really depend on the wind and temps so your belt should be fine no worries about it

What I was saying is that where I was going 61 earlier, I could do 65-66 at a few years ago. There is also the possibility that its older now and just not as fast too though.

Good point. I adjusted my valves at the loose side of the specs both intake and exhaust. And one thing I didn't think about is that I'm a good 30lbs fatter these days as well. So on to the next thing I guess. Front wheel bearings. Thats going to be a pain in the a$$.

Not sure about your Grizzly but on mine I change it every 2000 miles even if the belt acts and looks good for piece of mind sake.

There only $70 and take 25 min to change.
