Yes the '01 had stock tranny issues. Yamaha did put out a revision, and I am pretty sure there was at least one aftermarket company that had a solution as well. Get a service manual, you can save a bundle by replacing it yourself if that what needs done. Not as hard as you might think.

should i not buy a 2001 yamaha raptor 660, because of those tranny problems and all other problems i was told the 01"s have. The guy said evrything run good. Is there a good chance all the 01's will have some problems?? thanks mark

I know the 02's had the tranny problem fixed so it had to be either mid production or the end of the 01 production run that it was corrected. I wouldn't let that be the major determining factor on not purchasing the quad, who knows, it may have already been corrected. Alot of the guys would replace the 01 tranny with an 02-05 when it went out. The only other issues I have heard about was the starter solonoid but I don't think that was quite as common and I believe the raptor had an issue with that up until 04 or so.
