Is the fuel valve on reserve? Check that it is set to on and that fuel is flowing through it. Also put fresh gas in it. if nothing works, get the carb cleaned.

Got spark? Did it just die or act like it was running out of gas?

its getting enough spark. ill be riding and down shift or pull in the clutch and it just shuts off, doesnt sputter or anything just dies and even after i cools down it still wont start. if i push it and pop the clutch it will start then i can shut it back off and then it will kick start again

intermittent short/open somewhere..... (probably the stator)

Mine did some of this crap and it eventually turned out to bad a bad Stator. I changed the cheapest parts first.... of course I went through the entire electrical system first and verified all the wiring was in good shape and insured no shorts from worn through stuff, and the ground up around the coil was solid and clean.... I changed spark plug, plug cap, coil, etc..... the last thing I changed was the Stator, and it quit failing on me.
