My buddy's 01 Big Bear started sputtering on a long steep hill, going up hill. It stalled on a pretty bad hill and he had to choke it to make it up all the way. We stopped for a while and it made it home w/out sputtering but there were no big hills on the way home. We thought it may just be a plug. I converted this guy to Yamaha so he's giving me some @#$%#. Any ideas or similar experiences??

Sounds like it was starving for fuel. Pull the fuel line off the carb and check for good flow. Check for kinks and replace the fuel filter. Also, check that the vent is the fuel cap is clear.
