HELP!! My raptor doesn't run and....
#1
I/We don't know what the problem is. Ok, At first I thought it was blown up. Well the guy did a compression check(80# I think) and it's ok. So he thought that it might of been a burnt valve or something, so he did a leak test? and he said that was fine(3% or someting - I DUNNO). There is spark. He's is thinking that the engine is not turning over fast enough to do something with the compression release--that's when it got a little out of my league. However, before I took it up there my battery died and I ran it off of a car battery and was kicking over fast enough, so I think he's gonna come up short on his next test. So what's the problem? It all started when my brother was running my atv without the airbox lid on(I was putting UNI's in) and he didn't know(He was sneaking), but it was already running lean. My girlfriend said she came home and it was sounding like sh*t and hasn't run since the last time he ran it. What should I have him look for, I mean I'm sure he'd find the problem but he's taking his good ole time and I'm having wiitttdraaawlslls it's been around 6 wweeeekkkss. Help me out-- I need some suggestions to make to him so he gets on the ball!!!!!!
ohh and another thing what do you do in a leak test?

Sorry to hear about that. Im not sure what to make of that. Although a new idea to prevent the "sneaking" in the future do what I do......Keep your quad extra clean. Mine always looks like the day I bought it. My little brother knows there is no way on this green earth that he get that thing out and back and STILL look clean. =-)

A car battery might provide way too many cranking amps for the wheeler. Did your mechanic check the fuse?
If the compression/ leak down and timing are in check....then it should start.
If you ran the engine with no air box? (lid? filter?) did you clean out the carb? Is the float stuck. Is it getting fuel? Plugged jets?
Just a few ideas...Hope you get it running. Or send it to me...I could use a raptor

Way to go redrocker. You are correct!! I will bet any money that the problem is the flywheel key is sheared. from it running like crap and backfiring i will guarantee that the key is the problem. Also i have heard people have this problem with 400ex sparks keys. Check it out eric youll be riding soon!! :0)

Eric, Get rid of that key regardless put the stock one back in! If comp and spark are good your fine its prob the key or battery. Defin get rid of that key its only a $15 dollar item so eat it and go back to stock I bought on and never installed it for this reason you dont need it, its junk!

The key was first thing he checked was that key and he said it was good and still in time. He then told me that he put the stock jets back in and it fired right up!!! Leave it up to me to f**k things up. I knew I shouldn't have tried to jet that thing. He said he gonna take it for a ride to see how it's running. I feel so relieved that it's not burnt. I guess I did jet it too high. I'm tellin him to hold off on the porting so I can ride this weekend. YEEEEEESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!
