Big guy on a Warrior
#1
First post here at ATV Connection, and looking for some input like everyone else.
Going to buy my first ATV, had a few dirtbikes, but no ATV's.
Looking to start for a trail ATV that is easy on the wallet. I know the two don't go together, but looking to spend around $1,000 to get started and into it.
Most riding will be trails, not looking to race it, more relax, hit the trails, have some fun.
I've looked into the Yamaha Warrior as I see a few located around me on CL in my price range. Just wanted input on if its big enough for me, 6'2" 280lbs. If not, what might be a better ATV for me around the same price?
Thanks for the help,
Greg

A Warrior would be a great start. They are fairly roomy and comfortable and definately will take a beating. I'm 6'1" and 220 lbs and I rode Warriors up until a few years ago, and back then always rode doubles with my fiancee, so that was about 350 pounds. They have plenty of bottom end torque to get going and climb hills and still are fast enough to have fun and keep up with your buddies. If you want to upgrade later a Raptor 700 would be a good choice for you if you want to stay with the sport quads or the 4x4 utility quads (like a Grizzly 700, Kawi Brute Force, CanAm Renegade, etc) offer more room and a better ride than a sport quad for bigger people.

Ever consider a 400ex? A little bigger, same price range and great trail quads. If its not a option a warrior is a good quad to get started on. Odds are you will be looking to upgrade in a short period of time.

I had a warrior for a while very good trail quad, but I was bored with the power very fast. Owned it less than 2 months. Now I have a 06 Z400 it was more than the warrior by 400 dollars but well worth it. The warrior has a few problems you should be aware of, stators go out kinda often, exhaust studs are small and break, and the starter clutch is weak and goes out often. I had the exhaust stud problem on mine the starter clutch was also going bad on it, But that said it was very comfortable, power is ok, and it rode very good, But felt a little front heavy. Motor tech is older but easier to work on. Hope this helps

My first atv is a warrior bought it 3weeks ago and love it. I'm 5'8 180 and it handles me well and it's pretty fast all though I can see myself upgrading to a 400 or a 450 soon because I'm already comfortable with the speed and want more but that's just me. Also the warrior is a trail monster I love it and with a simple front sprocket change to a 12t it will pull out of corners like a beast. When I bought it ,it was making this writes knocking from the stator housing did research and it was a well know issue the one way bought a new one for 50 bucket and took 30min to changed it very simple and they are easy to work on. Take note I never had a atv nor dirt bike so I I'm knew and I stand by everything I just typed.
