I know there are 10,000,000 threads with a similar title and symptoms, but I have some questions that I haven't been able to answer reading through other threads.

Here's the info:
2000 Warrior 350 turns over but won't start.

- I started by checking the battery was fully charged, then replaced/gapped spark plug.
- I was only getting spark when I pushed the start button and when I released the start button. Nothing in between.
- I then replaced the ignition coil. Still same spark condition.
- Then I replaced the stator coil pickup. Same spark condition.

My question is, shouldn't the spark plug be firing every time the piston reaches TDC?

Any help with this would be really great! My son would love to get back out riding again!

 

The spark on a Warrior should be every OTHER time the piston is at TDC, being a 4 stroke. A 2 stroke fires EVERY time the piston is at TDC.

I had a weird problem on my Warrior where the wire harness rubbed the frame and wore the wire down to the copper and I lost spark. It was where the harness wraps around the frame under the left rear fender.

 

Thanks, I'll check that tonight. I've got all the plastic off right now so it should be easy to check out.

 

- Checked out the harness and had a worn spot on the power wire. I fixed that but still had the firing issue.
- Noticed the ignition coil wire was a little loose. Replaced the connection. Now I can tell I'm getting some ignition and the plug is firing.

I didn't get the motor to crank, but the battery was a little low and the 4 wheeler has been sitting for about 6 months. Do you guys ever shoot any carb cleaner or anything into the carb while cranking to bring something back to life after sitting for a while?

 

If something is going to sit that long, I put some Stabil in with the fuel and crank the engine until some of the Stabil makes its way into the carb. Otherwise when the fuel evaporates out of the carb bowl you're left with a gummed-up mess in the carb. Or instead of Stabil just drain the carb or an easy way to do it is to shut the fuel off and run the engine until the engine shuts down out of gas. You may have to pull the carb bowl and clean it and the pilot/main jets.

 

Thanks man, I'll give that a shot this evening. I probably just don't have the carb cleaned up good enough.

 

Yeah just squirting in some carb cleaner usally won't clean the jets if they are completely gummed up. I wish it were that easy!

 

I got the carb cleaned up. Still wont start. Backfires occasionally as well

 

backfiring is a sign that u have fuel and spark, but could mean that the timing is off or the valves are open/bent. It would be a good idea to check the timing, check the valve clearances, and possibly do a compression check to make sure the cylinder/rings are up to par.
