Default is this a voltage rectifier/regulator problem

I have a 2002 polaris 700 sportsman that has to be jump started although it has a new battery. When you disconnect the jumper cables it will run all day but the lights and gauges don't work and if you shut it off it won't start again without being jumped again.

I have been told that jumping an atv with an automobile can damage the electronic system. Too many amps from the vehicles alternator. Might be worth looking into.

There's not enough info given yet to diagnose a regulator or rectifier. Is the bike draining the battery? Did the new battery work until it went dead? Does the new battery have a full charge?

The rectifier converts AC voltage that is generated from the motor to DC voltage. The regulator makes sure the DC voltage stays at a constant set voltage. These components could have something to do with the battery charging and the lights working, but shouldn't have anything to do with the starting issue.

It does not hurt to jump a 4wheeler from a car battery. The 4wheeler will only draw the amps that it wants, the amps from the car will not "force" their way into the 4wheeler.
