I'm getting back into the sport after a 10 year break. My last machine was an 85 ATC250r 3 wheelers. I loved the power it had and the reliability. What I'm wondering is which machine is closest to that kind of speed and acceleration.

I know the trx250r is the one but I want something new. The three machines I currenty looking at are the 400ex, the Raptor and the Banshee. I am least inclined toward the banshee because of the styling and suspension, but the power is right on. Does anything come close to the 250R?

I've also noticed that quads are much slower than 3-wheelers, in a 86 Dirtwheels mag I still have the top speed for an 86 ATC250R was 76 mph while the quadracer 250r was clocked at 63. I guess the weight and the friction caused by the extra tire might be the cause for the reduction of speed.

 

Personally if you yearn for the smell and sweet power of a two stroke the banshee is the way to go. I dunno who started the rumor that the banshee handles bad but I feel they are dead wrong but its all in what you like. I had a 400EX and liked it but sold it. I ride with many "Ex" banshee riders who now have Raptors. Since last fall 2 out of the 4 have sold the Raptors and went back to the banshees. Don't get me wrong the Raptor is a sweet machine but where we ride mostly in the open desert fire roads of Nevada the Banshee is still king. It all depends on how you ride, and where you ride. If you can afford to own a Banshee and a Raptor thats the best choice ; )
