Hahaha any free manuals online to repair these? Im going to start with eBay for a carb kit for a 225. Any differences you found in the years? Are all 225s equipped with the same carb?

My manuals only shows one carb for the Moto 4 225.

Are you sure its a 225? I looked here.

and unless I missed it only the Moto4 200 250 and 350 have a pull rope recoil.
I can,t find it for the 225.

Yeah, mine's not recoil either. The quad came from the factory with a rope and handle in the rear box. You remove the left engine case cover with a 5mm allen socket, then wind the rope around the pulley by hand, like an old, old, old outboard motor. No recoil.

Thats what mine has. Its a pully, kinda brass goldish color under the gear cover by the foot shifter. I dont have a rope or handle though. I dont know how to put a pic on here but I did take one of it.

Can you add a recoil pull cord on this for a decent price?

Unknown. My 225 manual doesn't show the recoil cover, just the 'manual rewind' type we've both described. Just guessing here, but I believe if the recoil starter were available for the 225, it would most likely be in the manual so as to show how to repair it (rope & spring replacement, etc.)

As for retrofitting one from a different size Moto 4 engine, that would depend on if the bolt patterns are the same, and if the recoil pulley lines up with the crankshaft. Then you'd have to get the crankshaft adapters so that the recoil pulley fits on, as there is no such animal on your engine, just the 'manual rewind' pulley. You'd simply have to get your hands on all the parts and test-fit them.

There was a recoil-start cover on eBay lately, but there's no mention in the ad of it fitting a 225.

So far, all the resources I've looked at point to 'No' for a recoil starter on a YFM225.

You know about the decompression lever on the camshaft cover, right? You'll need it to manually start the engine. It's on the exhaust (front) valve rocker inspection cover, on the right side. Use the rope to turn the engine counter-clockwise to the compression stroke. You'll feel the resistance. Then flip the De-Comp lever so you can get the crankshaft just past the Compression stroke. Close the lever and then pull the rope to start.

I know this is an old thread, but it's the first one to pop up when I google "moto 4 225 pull start", and figured this info might help someone out.
I got a pull start off ebay for a Yamaha 200, along with the crank pulley. Worked fine on my moto 4 225.
