Unknown. My 225 manual doesn't show the recoil cover, just the 'manual rewind' type we've both described. Just guessing here, but I believe if the recoil starter were available for the 225, it would most likely be in the manual so as to show how to repair it (rope & spring replacement, etc.)
As for retrofitting one from a different size Moto 4 engine, that would depend on if the bolt patterns are the same, and if the recoil pulley lines up with the crankshaft. Then you'd have to get the crankshaft adapters so that the recoil pulley fits on, as there is no such animal on your engine, just the 'manual rewind' pulley. You'd simply have to get your hands on all the parts and test-fit them.
There was a recoil-start cover on eBay lately, but there's no mention in the ad of it fitting a 225.
So far, all the resources I've looked at point to 'No' for a recoil starter on a YFM225.
You know about the decompression lever on the camshaft cover, right? You'll need it to manually start the engine. It's on the exhaust (front) valve rocker inspection cover, on the right side. Use the rope to turn the engine counter-clockwise to the compression stroke. You'll feel the resistance. Then flip the De-Comp lever so you can get the crankshaft just past the Compression stroke. Close the lever and then pull the rope to start.
