At least you have a ATV and a Ownership. Never heard of a cop actually looking at ownership and comparing the number on it with the numbers stamped on the ATV itself.
Their not crawling under it to get that dirty.
There is zero diffence between a 2009 and 2012.

Another thing you can try is getting insurance. Insurance card and the bill of sale may be enough to get past the cops. Never tried it myself though so I don't know.

The deal was a manufacturer from what i was able to find online, however they are out of business and were shut down years ago. Go figure!!! so yeah it seems like they got one over on him as well. Its a really nice machine and in good condition and i got a good deal on it. He gave me a bunch of extra accessories with it as well. such as extra wheels and tires, winch, storage rack... the only thing that concerns me is that i bought a newer machine with and older year stamped on it. :-/

Just give the insurance company the ownership you have. Its not like they actually want to see the machine itself.

I have been check out by police and game wardens on sleds, trucks and ATVs and they always only look at the paperwork and never the actual machine to see if the numbers match.
Don,t worry about the years , there are plenty of 2009s in better shape then 2012s out there.

...unless the dealer paperwork is bogus.

Makes you wonder why he was selling for such a good deal doesn't it? and why he hadn't ridden it much and was in storage?

If there is no difference from year to year, I wouldn't worry about it.

Here is the difference between a 2009 and 2012. I can,t see any. 2012 Yamaha Grizzly 550 FI Auto. 4x4 ATVs

The 2012 weighs 49lbs more, maybe they came with a winch and the 2009 did not?

The deal paperwork looks pretty legit to me, the only difference is the year.

Just go with the paper you got. If you run the number through the police and they find its stolen they may just take it and now your out both the money and ATV.
