I'm looking into buying my first own quad and I'm thinking of buying a second hand one off kijiji or a friend which can always be risky. I'm just curious as to other opinions on which bikes are better? And what to look out for when buying second hand. Obviously people lie about keeping up with maintenance and such. I dont want to buy a bike for it to blow up a month or so down the road. Any tips?

I buy used all the time never bought a bad one. You can pretty well tell which is a good one even by a little ride and its looks.
Pretty well hard to hide broken.

I like the friend idea better since you know what your getting.
I always say everyone on this forum rides a used ATV since they are considered used as soon as they leave the show room floor.

Hondas, Suzukis, Yamahas, are all considered very reliable. Kawasaki, Can-Am, and Polaris are all good quads too but may be a little more maintenance heavy. If you have a friend who rides bring him/her with you. If you can, let it run and idle for a while to see if there are any overheating issues. If it's heavily modified, I'd pass on it. They are usually the most abused quads. Take a ride where you can try out all the features to make sure they work.
