Default The dreaded bog

I have a 2003 Kodiak 450. It starts fine, but is seems to have two issues. First, is that if I push the choke all the way off, it dies. Second, is that while it idles fine with a bit of choke, the moment I touch the throttle it dies.

If I hit the throttle hard I can bypass the "bog" and it will run...but if I try to accelerate normally it'll die immediately.

This just started recently, after it sat for a few weeks. I run only non-ethanol fuel in it, if that matters.

Sounds like the pilot may be a bit stopped up. How did it run before you let it sit for the few weeks? And if one can, its alway better to run the non-ethanal.

It's always run great. Starts right up an pure like a kitten...hot, cold...doesn't matter. This is the first issue I've ever had with it.

Is it really cold where you are? Is the ATV parked outside? Could have a little water in the fuel. What's the condition of the battery? Is it 12.4VDC or greater ( not running )? Whens the last time you changed the spark plug?

It was fairly warm here when the condition started. It's parked outside. New battery a few weeks ago, and I changed the spark plug last year. The plug probably doesn't have 20 miles on it.

Then more than likely you need to pull the carb and give it a good cleaning. At that age, would be a good idea to at least replace the bowl "O" ring and the needle and seat but, I recommend cleaning the main and pilot jets unless you purchase a good quality kit. I prefer to clean and reuse those jets because seems like nothing is as good as stock....again depending on the quality of the rebuild kit that you purchase.
