Default Burnt rectifier help

So I was looking around on the wiring of a project I just picked up. It's a 1989 Yamaha big bear. I know it needs some wiring work around the battery connections. But I was looking around on some of the connections to see what else needs work. I pulled off the connector to the rectifier and it looked pretty burnt inside, also one of the wires running to the connector looked pretty bad. The connection almost was gone. It's only holding on by a little bit. I don't know a lot of what could cause this so any ideas would help. We're the wiring needs work the main positive wire was cut after the fuse. The previous owner said he hooked up a battery and a battery jumper box to try and test other electrical components. Just wondering also if bypassing that fuse could have sent more power to fry it. If not what can cause the burn marks? Will tine in need of a new rectifier? And also should I look more for other burnt components and connections.
