Nut centrifugal clutch Kodiak
 

Shall take off my centrifugal clutch on my -94 Kodiak 400. Clutch is fastened with a nut with a "flat" area. Do I have to knock out det flat part before loosen the nut and do I have to loosen the nut clockwise or counterclockwise?

Thought someone else would have chimed in by now. I've done Hondas, Suzukis and Kawasakis but not a Kodiak, anyway Googled it and found

I guess I have to use a screwdriver or similar to get the nut round before I turn it off(?)

He just rattles it off with the impact gun. It seems like that nut has a collar that is peened over and running it off bends the peened part out of the way. There is another video of a 350, much more detail, where the nut is held by a tabwasher, with them, yes you bend the tab out of the way with a screwdriver before undoing.

Have taken off both the centrifugal clutch and the secondary clutch.
The centrifugal has fried shoes and not much coating under the fried part.
No parts available on Yamaha and on the aftermarked for 93 to 95 models.
I wonder if it is possible to use the housing and carrier for 96-97 models. Seems that these parts are available. The carrier for this model is also available on the aftermarked.

A thing that annoys me about centrifugal clutches is they all seem to use the same shoes, yet most makers insist on selling the whole unit at a stupid price, and nobody in the aftermarket world sells shoes on their own. Honda do, but I can't guarantee Honda shoes are the same as Yamaha ones. A friendly Yam dealer may know a work around such as "we take the shoes off a 96 carrier and mount them on the 94 one."

Agree with you, I'm contacting a Yam dealer about this. If no good answer from there I'm considering buying a used one on ebay just for trying.
