I'd recomend a foam filter(preferrably dual stage) if you ride in real dusty conditions. However, K&Ns do have better flow but then you chance more dirt/dust particles passing through the filter. You're gonna have a little bit flow with the K&Ns resulting in MAYBE 1/2 to 1 HP more, which I think doesn't justify sacrificing reliability and your engine. I have to say go with a pro-flow kit or something to that nature.

I suggest a 2-stage foam filter. I use a UNI with Bel-Ray Foam Filter Oil. In my opinion, the K&N's are high in the cost/benefit ratio. A good quality foam filter (even without an outerwear) makes for the best protection of your investment.
