HOMEMADE RAPTOR GRABBAR.....NEED TO KNOW...
#1
Hey guys. I have totally wasted the stock aluminum grabbar(2 flips and it was gone) and have to do a project for my welding class in school. I am planning on making a HEAVY DUTY STEEL grabbar for my project. I was wondering if I put the new grabbar on there...and flip it...again...will it bend the subframe? Is the subframe aluminum? Is there anything special I can do to the grabbar to make it snap if I flip it....I don't want it to break with the first little flip but rather hold up on the little flips and break right before the subframe would. Am I dreaming about a unrealistic grabbar?

Something smrt o do would be a grab bar that can be "popped" into place, or get the bolts to break before your frame does. Make a "too big" hole for the bolts so when you flip it bad bad it will just break off. When back home, a little weld and you've got your new grabbar....sounds like something possible? I don't really know how hard it gets pulled or pushed, but you might want to consider plastic bolts. If they can hold up to the wheely, then it's perfect...you roll, they break, get your spare plastic bolts (1/1000 lb each), and bolt it back on.
