While I have not had the tranny problem.. (knock on wood) I would like to help organize some data collection about the problem.

If your Raptor has had the 2nd gear tranny problem, could you PLEASE post your last 6 digits on the VIN, and about when your bought your Raptor, and if yamaha covered it under warranty.
Please be prepared to back up your claims with warranty or non warranty paper work, pictures if you have them, etc. I don't want any of the my brothers friends ucles cousins cats best friend has one stories.

The only way to get yamahas attention is to really start documenting the problem, getting people together, and grabb'n some attention. If we get enough people lined up, yamaha WILL come around, the power of the interenet is scary to the big corporations.

If we can get 25 or so people with DOCUMENTED failures, I will register a domain and start up a website. Trust me, we will get noticed, but it must ALL be documented and legit!

I have a new raptor. 2001. I have not had the problem. Hopefully it is people making a big deal over nothing, although i don't deny the problem, i think that not Everyone has teh problem. Also, should i buy the extended warrinty for mine? Will it cover a tranny problem? Mine dosen't go into reverse that smoothly...sometimes i haev to slip the clutch a little...i think this is normal? Also neutral is a little hard to find from day 1. I hope this dosen't mean my raptor is bad, all of em may do this.

 

Yea Banshee Brad I work at a Yamaha shop in tampa, Fl. I personally own a raptor since Sept of 00. I haven't had any problems with mine and I ride about everyweekend. I race Harescrambles in the A class down here So i beat the crap out of it. Well I had one customer come in with 2nd gear problems.. It was still under factory warranty and Yamaha Did repair it free of charge. the only think i see that caused it was Miss shifting and hitting neutral instead and then immediately jamming it into 2nd and not lettin rpm's die down.
