02 Grizzly 1st Ride

Actually, in reply to what "Ilikegasoline" said about the Prarie (or as it's called here in Canada, the "KVF"
twin being superior to the Grizz's single cylinder...the twin cylinders aren't necessarily better than one. Although there are two, the total displacment is less than the grizzly's. The main advantage to having two cylinders, is that the engine will generally run smoother and probably quieter than one big banger, but as for torque, more isn't necessarily better in this case.

OK , it's Monday morning and I had all day Sunday to play with the Griss. Here is the report. I have a total of 44 miles on it so far and the quick likes/dislikes:
Likes: Suspension, can you say IRS? I never would have belived a quad could handle this good. Having owned a 2000 Kodiak and DS 650 , the stright line tracking through the rough stuff under power is awesome on the grizz.
Power, has gobs of power, loves to rev . Wheelies on a grizz? YEP! I made one top speed run for about 1/2 mile at the 40 mile mark. Packed dirt access road , level: 69 mph Indicated , 67 mph Etrex GPS. There was a bit more but hey , I am still breaking it in! I rode my Kodiak to top speed ONCE. I felt like I could ride the grizz one handed at that speed , did I say I liked the suspension yet?
Diff lock: Works great , tried it on two hills , no deep mud yet. Make sure you are ready and pointed where you want to go because its pretty tough to turn!
Handling: Easily the easiest quad to turn slowly or under power I have ridden. front end feels light and agile.
Display: Just plain cool , easy to read dark or light.
Dislikes:
Tow hitch is located so close to the diff that your turning radius while towing a trailer is severely limited. I am sure someone will come out with a extension....
4x4 . On my kodiak , the only way I knew I was in 4x4 was the turning was a little tough . On the grizz , I can feel a bit of vibration while in 4x4...Most likely normal but certainly different than the Kodiak.
HEAT! The exhaust gets HOT! I ride in Western Ny and our temps Sunday were only in the low 70's. During low speed travel the cooling fan ran ALOT and the exhaust was very hot in comparison to both my DS and Kodiak. I pulled the side panels and took a guestimate on engine temp and it seemed normal, (hot but not excessive) . I'll have to see how others note this..
OK , now did I say how much I liked the suspension and the power? Nail the throttle and point the nose , the rear end squats and you are gone!
It never gets squirrely in the rough (especially under power). It has the tnedency to get you way overconfident. I was travelling trails at a speed I would NEVER take my Kodiak to. Not because of the power so much as the way it just acts like a cadillac in the rough. You never feel out of control or on the edge of disaster.
Gas consumption I am at between 1/2 and 1/4 tank after 44 miles. Seems fine.
Any questions just ask.

Thanks for the Report Rad, I pick mine up in a few hours! I can't wait, dark green too! Why is it hard to turn in 4wd locked? Just because all 4 wheels are pulling? Otherwise sounds great!I gotta wait till next weekend to get some ride time on mine, working 12 hour nigths this week. Its going to be a long week! Well, I gotta go sign some papers! Have a good one!

67 on the E-trex? Thats impressive for a utility machine....wait a minute....thats as fast as a 400ex!
Looks like the Prairie 650 and Grizzly 660 have set the new standard for utility atv's. I hope the suspension on these machines is VERY GOOD, or a lot of riders are gonna get in trouble at speed.

Good report Radbradc. Thanks. Now, one question if you please..
How well does it powerslide? We've heard how well it hooks up, but can you get the tail out a little if you want to?

I took my first test ride on the new Grizzly 660. Power, nice and smooth. Suspension, like a cadillac. Turning ability in 2wd and 4wd, excellent and tight. The only one thing was, in 4wd locked it doesn't go over 20mph But other than that, this is tops!!

Everything sounds good on the new yami so far, someone mentioned about having to hit the brake to shift from Drive to reverse. Sounds like whats on my vehicles, is it true. Hate to have to stop momentum in a hole if I had to go from forward to reverse, and vica versa in some slop. I may have misunderstood, Tell me how it works. Its all good
