Raptor/Banshee
#1
Hello,
I am thinking about getting a new Raptor. Jetted and piped.
I currently have a modified 2000 Banshee. It has pipes and
I am VERY HAPPY with it. I rode a Raptor a month ago and
was happy with it.What can I expect when buying a Raptor?
On the motocross track, woods, fireroads, hillclimbs, sand
dunes. The Banshee will be kept PRIMARILY for the sand dunes.
What kind of a ride does the Raptor give? How happy are you with
its performance? Yes,I know about the mechanical aspects. I will
buy it with a 4 year warranty. The front sprocket they will drop
it down one tooth in order to compensate for the too tall gearing in first and second. Love those Yamahas.

Must be nice! You dont need to drop the front sprocket for trail riding, only for dune hill climbs. You have to keep the revs up a little more than on most 4-strokes when going real slow or it will stall due to the light flywheel. It's a little tippy till you get used to it, jumps nice, wheelies on demand or when it feels like it! Also does pretty good on fuel economy, conisdering. My buddy has a y2k Banshee with the full Toomey treatment and carbon reeds, and I get about 2.5 times the ride time stock. Havent piped the Raptor yet, but it's coming. You will love it. Get the warranty, I havent had any trouble yet,(knock on wood), but you never know.

Dirkpitt,
Thanks for the reply.
The company I am buying it from is Alba Action Sports in Poway, California. They specialize in modifying Banshees, DS650's and Raptors, etc... They cost about 250.00 above retail and the come
with 800.00 worth of accessories and 240.00 labor. I saved 1159.00
that I would of spend later on. I bought it on Friday and am having it delivered some 340 miles to my house this coming Saturday.
I am SO excited. The 2002 models they have fixed the gearing.
They don't come out til October. So, They had a clearance of $250.00 off and they will drop the front sprocket one tooth for me
as a condition of the sale. They are nice people. Out the door
$7591.00. Renthals, graphics kit, {Trick exhaust (479.00)} with the pipe made with the ceramic coating, Trick filter setup,& jet kit.
Yeah, that Banshee of mine sucks down 3.2 gallons of gas in 2 hours. I am on it constantly. I'll be glad to get a high performance 4 stroke so I can trade off with. Getting it delivered this Saturday. Happy Trails and again thank you for the insight on the Raptor. I am riding it Sunday morning. Thank god my wife undwerstands me she is the BEST!!!

I ride my slightly modded shee (pipes, K&N, opened airbox...), and spend some time on my buddy's Raptor.
At first, I liked more his, caus' it's more a plush ride, smoother...but the more I ride it...the more I like my shee. The power rush has nothing reasonnable (it's energy wasting, tyre spinning...)...but it's really fun!!! The Raptor is a nice machine (even excellent)...but lacks "personality". I can't really say what I feel...the Raptor is made not to shock its rider, to be as "polite" or "politically correct" as possible. It's nice...but the shee is more like "whatcha doing on me, you? get off!!" and you battle and hang on...
It's similar to new cars...they all try to be as perfect as possible...but lack the "passion factor". That's really how I see the Raptor...perfect (nimble, powerful, reverse, lightweight...) but always saying "yes sir!" to its rider. Compare to the shee (not that nimble, no reverse, zero lowend)...but much more challenging to ride. You'll most lkely love your Raptor in all situations.
But nothing comes close to the shee.
