Hello everyone. I am thinking about getting a used 01' raptor. Low mileage, etc.
Apparently the 2002's come in October. So my question is for you raptor owners out there:
Would you recommend getting a used one, or wait for a new 02'.
I'm wondering how your 01's are holding up. Any problems that seem to be common?

Thanks Guys.

Only had mine for a little over a month, but I LOVE IT!!!! It's went through its break-in period, got serviced, & I finally got to max it out this past weekend-AWESOME. I'm not even dropping to a 12 tooth front because I love the speed-and everything else about it!

I don't think it matters how long you wait. Some people say Raptors trannies and axels are weak. But i don't think it is a wide spread problem or anything. Well even if it is, it's not like Yamaha will fix it anytime soon. Look at Banshee, Warrior and Blaster. All have had serious potential with a few changes, yet remain mostly unchanged for almost 10 years. (depending on model)Buy a DS 650 instead. It's a proven winner in the real world, not a cheesy magazine shoot out. Although the old 250 Tri-Z's were pretty cool too....

fruitjacket,
I seen on Yamaha's web site that they have changed a few things for the 2002 Raptor. Like:
1: Axle
2: Tranny
and more. I really haven't seen any major problems out of my buddies 2 Raptors. Just the standard broken grab bar, flat tires, etc.

If your a woods rider, get the used Raptor and save a little cash. But if your a MX'er and your going to race, wait for the 2002. Things aways get better in Time.
