Hi Danimal,
My girlfriend owns a 1997 Kawasaki Bayou 220 and she has owned it for almost 3 years without a single problem. This machine pulled me out of the mud quite a few times and is very sturdy. I'm not sure about the Beartracker or the Recon, I know that the Bayou wouls be a good choice.

I wuold no consider the bayou. I just seen them down too many times for no reason. If she want racks I would go with the Recon cause the Beartracker is too much of a utility and not much sport. The Recon is a good choice cause it blends in with foremans, grizzlys and such sort, but on the other hand fits right in with 250, 300 and 400 EXs and that sort.

i own a beartracker and it is a good all around quad. my wife rides it when we go hunting it is very user friendly. my brother has a warrior when we go ride it will hold good thru the tight trails and mud where we ride the only time he ran off from me was on long open straight aways. when i was in cozmel i went on a trail ride and they supplied recons it was a 3 hour tour and the quad ran just fine i went with the yamaha because i have always rode on yamaha's.

I have a Beartracker and it has been no trouble to me. I know the 220 is quite small and have seen a lot being repaired, and the recon is a little faster by about 2-3 mph than the beartracker but i can out mud my buddy, on a redon, who has been riding longer than i have. The beartracker is a full size quad. but the recon is a bit small, for me anyway. i would stay to either the 'tracker or the recon. I think the beartracker is also a bit cheaper? And idles good in the winter, unlike the recon. oh and i have the exact same, or a little better acceleration over the recon. But would suggest go what she is comfortable on.

The beartracker does sound like a great machine, but I can tell you this much from my own experience, the Kawasaki Bayou has allot of torque, and this machine has been through tight trails, mud, you name it and I haven't had a single problem with it. The problems that you mentioned with the Bayou, what are they, becuase I would like to know.
Thanks
