I picked up a Pro-Design kill switch and put it on the Raptor, but the instructions that came with it said to hook it up so that it shorts the coil to ground. On the Raptor this would be the orange wire, which heads back to the CDI. I called Yamaha and of course they "discourage aftermarket modifications." Next was Pro-Design who said "I designed that switch 15 years ago for bikes without batteries." He didn't think it was a good idea either. I then did a search on this forum and it appears there are some people using the Pro-Design switch. My question is, does it screw up the CDI by grounding the orange wire to the coil? Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Just disconnect the egine kill switch on the handle bars and hook it straight up to the 2 wires...

I installed one on my Raptor a few months back. Install the switch in the location U prefer on the bars. First, I routed both wires to the coil and grounded the appropriate wire to the bolt just above the coil. Next I pulled the positive terminal (front of the coil...nearest to the front of the Raptor too). Now I wound the kill switch "positive" wire (forget what color?) around the male connection that slides back onto the coil. Next, I started the machine and tested the kill switch....works fine. No splicing into your wiring harness is required either. 10 minute operation.

this is probably a dumb question but is the kill switch like the ones on a jet ski....if u fall off or take the clip from the holder it will automatically kill the engine?

Thanks,
William
