Sometimes these little mishaps work to your advantege, though(not this one). When I bought my blaster, I was told it was a 1991 bored 40 over. It was purple with white fenders(a 1993). I got bored one day and I checked the # on the frame and motor with the # in my clymer manual and it turns out it is a 1993, plus when I rebuilt the top end it was bored 20 over. So the mistake of the buyer worked out to be good for me, I got a slightly newer quad with more time left on the motor.

If I were you, I'd try to get a few hundred bucks back from this guy, and fix the fender and grab bar.

Thanks Dirt,

If he won't give me any cash back for the quad, but he will take it back and refund my money, what do you guys think that I should do? Banshee's are very Scarce around here, especially newer models. I'm in the process of getting a house (I'm only 20 years old) so I can't afford to get a brand new one.

Like I said, I paid $3000 for it, and it has the above flaws. I know the choice is up to me, but do you guys think that it is worth the money?

Thanks for the advice.

-Josh

hey man, if I were in your shoes.. I would definately keep it! I understand your anger, but heck, the 98 is just like the 99, only different graphics! I bought my 97 last year, for $3000, and it had FMF silencers, maier plastic, and a ceet seat cover and graphics..i think that's all. You got a really good deal, and like you said, the newer models are scarce. I think you got a good deal.. I mean, even if it IS 98, you didn't get ripped off.. Keep the quad

Hey Guys, just a quick update...

I talked to the guy I bought it from and explained the situation. He said that when he bought it he was told that it was a 1999, and had no reason to question it, so he had no idea that it was a 1998 (I believe him).

He asked me what I wanted to do and I told him that I would like the difference in the book values between the two years...which was $340. His exact words were:

"I still think that $3000 is a good price even though it is a 1998, however, since you weren't aware of this when you bought it I will give you $200 back, but I can't give any more. Or if you want your money back in exchange for the quad, we can do that too."

He told me that I could have the weekend to ride it and see if I still wanted it, and then to let him know on Monday. I think he made a pretty good offer, so I think that I will keep the quad after all. In a way I felt bad for the guy, cause he was a victim too sort of.

I suppose the quad is worth $2800.

Thanks for the help.

Sounds fair to me, you split the difference. Glad he was/is willing to work with you.

Thanks...Still kinda bummed that it's a year older, but it runs great. Dead even in a race with my friends 2001 Banshee (if not a little quicker down low). I guess now I can honestly say I'm glad that they didn't change the Banshee's every year.

Thanks! I really like it. Much different the the Polaris. Some bad, some good...mostly good though. Tonight will be my first night on the trails with it, so that should be interesting. I have been pampered with the automatic too long (between my other quad, and my snowmachine). We'll see how it goes. Thanks again.

It's nice the guy was OK to deal with yo...I really think it's fine...2800 is a good price, and 200$ rebate for an administrative difference is great!! Since you say the guy was honest (he didn't "change" year to hide anything)...Keep it and have fun...with 200$ you can easily get 2-3 new grab bars...hehe

Also, during the weekend...you can check the compression, look for weld jobs on the frame (Mine has been repaired on the swingar, -the linkage bracket holder- and right in front of the gas tank -the "U" like shaped part of the frame that hols your upper steering stem bushing). You can really thouroghly (sp?) check if maintenance has been done properly or not.
I can email you the pics were mine has been rewelded if you want...and some sensible spots too.
