Selling my blaster on saturday, its all arranged, I've been looking at another machine, I'm leaning more towards a dirtbike just because I can find WAY better deals then I can on quads around here.. So far I've found:

1993 Kawasaki KLX 650C 4stroke powerful reliable runs great. FMF exhaust $1,400

1996 KTM 125 exc. w/FMF pipes in great cond. $1,600

Sound like good deals? I thought so, but figured I'd get some more opinions. I'd like something big, it would be nice to be able to go on-road but not nesicarry, but definetly want something with alot of power and/or jumping ability.. Any suggestions? I have around $1,500 to play with give or take..

I dont really want another blaster though.. but the price is definetly good..

Well... its 99% sold, everything is arranged, the guy wants it we are meeting on saturday morning.. So it IS sold unless something comes up which is doubtful.... Thus, I'm exploring my options...

The blaster sounds like a great deal... but I have a blaster now that is Probally nicer then the one for $1,500.. I'm just trying to figure out wtf...

Man, that's one heckuva price for Blaster. I don't really like 4 stroke bikes, and KTM didn't get their bikes straight til this year

Yeah... I guess that is a smoking deal for the blaster.. but I'm kind of "spoiled" I paid $1,500 for my 00 and it was basically new.. They just are not fast enough.. they jump like the wind (which I like) but they just do not have that Ummph... I'd like a banshee but cannot afford one around here... I might be able to find an old zilla or tecate for what I'm willing to spend but chances are around here they'd be a basketcase... What are good dirtbikes? Opinions? Remember it has to be something I can get fairly cheap. Could you tell me a little about why the ktm would be a bad choice (besides lack of dealerships for parts) I have always thought they were good bikes???? What about the KLX? good?? bad??

I ride dual sports all the time. Currently I have a drz400 on/off.... My buddy has a klx650. Do not plan on jumping with that bike. At least not more than a couple of feet if your lucky. It has tons of power...actually scary power for me. But it will bottom right out while jumping...If it does not bottom, you will have a tough time contolling it in the tight stuff.(and really heavy to pick off the ground.)
You will not be happy with the weight of the klx unless you use it mostly on the road. Even my bike is too heavy for any serious jumping. But fast as all ****

If I remember right ...the klx is now the klr650. This years klr weighs in at about 340 pounds. I'm not really sure about the klx...But it is heavy.

Hey brokemybanshee, from your name I always assumed you had a Shee, guess not? KTMs are great bikes, like all euro bikes they have great attention to detail and come with great parts, however, until 98 they had weak(enduro like) power, (heavy flywheel) and very notchy shifting. My advice would be stay away from a pre 98 KTM.I agree ATVs are more fun than a dirtbike, if you are limited. If you have a great riding area, a dirt bike is easily as fun as an ATV.DO NOT but the klx, whatever you do, DO NOT buy it!!! It is a green bus with 2 wheels, if, as I assume you are into jumping and smashing berms a klx is NOT for you! For $1500 you dont have much to spend, I'd say check around for anything in your price range and don't be too picky.

brokemybanshee, KTM has had many motor problems, mixed with suspension problems. Back in 1996, it was mostly motor, with a little suspension. In 1999, they got their suspension dialed in, and in 2000, got the motor close. The 2001 model KTM 125 will rank up with the big 4. If you are looking for a 125 class bike, I strongly suggest a CR125. The YZ has more power stock for stock, but the suspension sucks! 2 of my friends have CR125s, and YZ125s. The CR isn't as "fast feeling" as the YZ, but you can definately ride faster on the CR. Also, the CR's shocks are a little stiffer, but hey, I like to know i'm not gonna be laying frame! I think that I would try to make a little on the Blaster, try selling it out of town, or resale.. And then find a 96-01 CR125 for the money. There's a guy down here in Dallas that has a 00 YZ125, Pro circuit platinum pipe, Nstyle graphics, new plastic, kayaba revalve.. alot of stuff for $3500.. I was thinking strongly about it!
