I have a wolverine with a sputter at criusing speed. It has a k&n dyno jet kit installed. It runs great at full throttle but sputters just a bit when decreasing throttle. I have been told that the needle needs to be moved up or down. I was wondering if anybody knows which way to go with the needle. It is in center position now.

If it sputters when decreasing speed it means it is running lean. You are correct, if it runs good at full throttle than the main jet size is ok. You need to move the clip on the needle down one notch. This will provide more fuel at 1/3 to 2/3 throttle.

Will the carb. have to be removed to do this? If I remember correctly the gas tank and carb has to be removed in order to do this.

The gas tank does not have to be removed, but the carb has to be removed. All you have to do is simply pull all the hoses off the carb, noting where they go, and loosen and remove the 2 clamps on either side of the carb adn it should be free. I never disconnect my throttle, i just sorta let it hang on the bike and do the carb work right there.

Drain the float by loosening the screw on the bottom of the carb. YOu undo the front 12mm nuts on the intake. Be sure not to twist the intake. Then loosen the clamp on the other side of the carb. Air box hose clamps. Now the carb should fall out. take off the side cover and remove the throttle cable. Just pust up on the linkage under the cover and slide the cable guid out. Then undo the cable tightener and pull out the cable. Put the Cable guid were you WILL NOT LOOSE IT. Not take off the three screws on top of the carb. This is were the carb is differant. You might have to undo a scre that is hooked the the needle assy. and then pull out the sharft thing not damaging the spring. Be sure not to loose the spacer (you will see it). Take the needel off and gently remove the e-clip and move it UP 1. Reasemble the same way you disassembled not forgeting anything.
