What type of riding do you do? If you ride hard and sporty, wear a full face helmet. If you are going to ride slowly and do utility work, then a half helmet is the solution. Only thing with a half helmet, is that you could get a face full of mud, bugs, rocks, or tree limbs. And of course dust as well. If you make wacky faces(due to exerting energy) when wearing a full-face helmet, you also make those same faces in a half helmet. That's fine if no one is going to take pictures of you! But if your going to take photos, remember that everyone will see those funny faces you make. A picture's worth a thousand laughs, in this case. Helmets range in price from $40 up to $250. If you are not going to shop around close to where you live, try www.denniskirk.com and www.JRGRAHAM.com They have HJC, Bell, Bieffe, thor, Lazer, and other brands of helmets as well. Good Luck

I skimped a bit on my first helmet, it was a Vega full face MX style I paid $45 for. The liner is not removeable and it starts to stink after awhile. I now use an MSR world tour that cost me about $100 I think it was worth the price difference, it's a quality rig with a washable liner. You can save some money buy searching ebay for MX helmets.

If you havent gotten your quad yet then try to get the dealer to "throw" it in with the price of the bike. I did that and got away with a 230$ HJC.

Another couple of things to consider are helmet weight and airflow through the helmet, depending on where you live. We had a race Wed. night and the temp was 98 degrees, but with good airflow through my Fox Pilot, it wasn't too bad. Whatever you get, make sure you try it on first making sure it's not too loose, that you're happy with the weight, and that the eyeport is big enough for your brand of goggles. As far as price, good helmets begin about $150 and go up to $570. My Fox Pilot ia middle of the road for weight and price ($300). HJC makes some excellent helmets that are less expensive, but no matter what try it on first. Helmets are made in Italy, Korea, and Japan so there is quite a bit of difference in fit.

Me and my son both run Thor helmets. Check Rocky Mountain for a good price. I think it was $169.00 I hate to say it but we have both put these helmets to the test and they held up well in both cases. Don't forget the Thor goggles to go with the helmet! Remember, spend the money on your own protection before you spend money on the quad modifications.

Another place to look is for blemishes. I recently purchased a lazer MX 5 Racing for 60 dollars with shipping. It listed at $140, but I got a blemish(not painted right)..However, the first time out it will be scratched. Check out lazer helmets site. It is a snell/dot approved with removable liner.

Also, some places have overstock that has never been used, and it costs money to sit on a shelf. Dennis Kirk sometimes auctions stuff off on Ebay, and don't forget the classifieds on the board.

I have an HJC CLX3. I like it... It works. lol.. unfortunately it saved me a couple times. In the world now, you GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Just remember that!
