I am gonig to put a YZ 426f engine in a 250r frame. I want to get the engine but I do not want to have to buy the whole bike. Does anyone know where I could get a yz426f engine. I preferably would like it brand new, but if its not it is ok. Also I am looking for a 250r with no engine in it or just a blown engine or something like that. Thanx

 

i dunno where to get one....but, seeing how youlike to ride red and honda just came out with the crf450, why dont you take your time and wait for it?

 

I heard Honda is going to be selling the CRF450 engine by itself for a while. I would go with that so you don't have to stick a Yamaha engine in a Honda chassis. You would have to call it Yanda or a Homaha. That just don't have that ring. Just kidding on the names but I think the honda engine is better than the yamaha based on observations from watchin dirtbike races on TV. I see way more holeshots on the CR than the YZ. but that could be just the rider.

 

When Honda comes out with that new 450 as a quad they are going to be top dog,,, for a while anyway. The weight and power are unmatched, even by Cannondale. A new YZ 426 motor is over $5,000, and a used CR ain't cheap in any condition. Build your own, with a Lonestar frame and you are well over $12,000. I think waiting for Honda is a real good idea. They had no competition when they came out with the 400EX. Now they've got lots of competition, and I'm sure the new 450EX will be out before the end of the year, and probably blow everything else away,,, for a while anyway.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-cool.gif[/img]

 

i hope you have had good luck with your swap. i have a 2001 lonestar no-link frame that i would like to put a yz426 in. i just emailed lonestar about swapping engines. i'll let you know back what they say. all the top pro's were running yz426 engines at loretta lynns national. (except doug gust). the power of that 426 was unreal. in the straight aways the were pulling the two stroke quads. (alittle). there were several yz426 engines for sale at loretta's. i think one was priced at 2500. anyway let us know how it turns out. airtime. 2001 lonestar pep zps pro-x 310.

I have read that honda is only going to use that engine in the cr and only use it for racing. I don't know that is just what I heard.

I hope you are right, but if it would be out by the end of the year, I think we would have heard by now. Even if you mean next year, I think it would be being seen in testing or something.

I think more realistic would be a 650 ex. I just think that would be their answer, but again I am just speculating. I wish they would announce something so we don't have to keep guessing.

maybe so, but probably not, because they will detune the heII out of it, everyone talks about how bad a xr400 motor is, of course I've never seen one race or anything, BUT, I know a 400ex motor isnt up to dirtbike standards with just a different piston and cam, and whatever else may be different.

We will have to wait and see.

But this I tell you today....

hey, i just heard that the yz426 quads will have to race open class in 2002 gnc (ama ot atva). anyone heard this?
