The other day i was riding in a gravel pit where it was really dusty, at the end of the day it started sputtering, back firing and cutting out, i thought that i might me the air filter that was dirty or maybe the carbs where dirty well i cleaned the filter and carbs but its still doing it. Could it be the valves that need to be adjusted or what else?

One thing to check is the carb boots. Make sure they are still on both carbs.

Does it still idle otherwise and only sputter when you start to add throttle? It could be the parking brake switch is malfunctioning.

Bittle,...I helped a guy with his raptor, with similar problem. We looked at every thing we could, finally & surprisingly we found H-2-O in gas tank ,bowls of both carbs, carb boots.....Something to think about.

I agree with what Quadkuke said,
One thing to remember is never fill your vehicle when a tanker is refilling the underground tanks. The pickup tubes do not sit directly on bottom of tank so if the fuel level is extremely low, water can be mixed up for a short till it settles back down to the bottom. If there is water at the bottom of the tanks and most of the time there is it will get churned up while the fuel load is dumped. If the gas station has good clean filters on there fuel stations it will be caught there. I still don't fill up if a tanker is sitting on the lot. Also water being in the tank you can see it in there if the fuel level is low enough. Shine a flashlight down by the pickup tubes and it will look like a bubble laying there on the bottom. Also I have a couple times by mistake taken off with the parking brake on and it does just what you are describing so what NotuRaptor said could be true. CHET
